Weekend in Hobart

We drove down early on Saturday morning in time for the Salamanca Markets. Under blue skies and sunshine we wandered for a couple of hours through the bustling avenues of stalls, boosted no doubt by the enormous MS Noordam cruise ship docked nearby.

A delightful lunch at the Phat Fish restaurant at Salamanca finished off the day, whilst dinner with friends at Maldini Italian restaurant topped off the night, very nicely.

On Sunday we woke to yet another brilliant day and after breakfast walked along the picturesque Constitution Dock.

But it was the evening of this day that was the real highlight. We discovered Evolve Spirits Bar which is part of the Macq 01 Hotel, along with the Old Wharf Restaurant.

The bar, which has an enormous range of spirits, wines and beers is a comfortable modern place to have a drink, but even more so somewhere that someone like me can get themselves lost in the surroundings. In this particular bar, those surroundings are prehistoric fossils, and they line the walls in glass cases. This is definitely my favourite bar of all time, anywhere. And we followed up with a superb dinner at the restaurant, overlooking Constitution Dock.
